The term Internet of Things is supposed to have been first coined in 1999, and now IoT is already having an impact on existing logistics and supply chain operations with the ability to share and process much more data from an almost infinite number of sources, and to adapt the sources and uses of data to changing circumstances.
Under IoT, the sources of data, the forms in which data is presented, and the ways in which data can be processed, simultaneously, in many different systems, are almost infinitely flexible.
For some users the supply chain is a real differentiator, for others not so much.
IoT presents both opportunities and threats for the current business models of logistics users and suppliers all parties have to prepare for whatever impact it may have.
