PACK AND SEA - AUTOMATIC TRACKING OF FISH CRATES

Pack and Sea wishes to obtain full traceability and to streamline the management of the fish crates in the entire logistics chain.

Challenges
Pack and Sea wishes to obtain full traceability and to streamline the management of the fish crates in the entire logistics chain. To deliver this solution for its fish crate distribution business, Pack and Sea has selected Lyngsoe Systems’ Asset Management solution. The Pack and Sea solution will enable easy tracking of each crate and streamline the invoicing procedure of the hired fish crates.

By taking a holistic look at the flow of fish crates from vessel to the customer, Lyngsoe Systems’ software not only delivers a real-time overview of stocked fish crates in various parts of the logistic chain, but also provides documentation of the actual location and status of the individual fish crate; whether onboard the trawler, with the collector, at the auction house, or wholesalers, etc.

The system provides the following advantages:

  • A real-time overview of fish crate stocks
  • A reduction in the number of misplaced fish crates
  • Easy location of fish crates
  • Documentation of transactions
  • A significant reduction in the number of lost fish crates
  • A significant reduction in unproductive time spent on searching for fish crates

By tracking assets automatically and knowing when handovers have taken place, losses can be reduced and turnaround on returnable transport items can be increased. The Lyngsoe Asset management System helps to streamline working routines and creates transparency, which in turn boosts revenue for all parties involved in the supply chain.

Information on the fish crates is collected electronically by equipping every single crate with an RFID tag. RFID readers are installed at each registration point to ensure registration and documentation of all transactions in the logistics chain. This electronic collection and handling of data reduces administrative costs as well as operational costs.

Companies dealing with returnable transport assets will benefit from being able to track their assets, not just by ensuring that hired assets are returned, but also by ensuring that sufficient assets are available. This ensures production efficiency and profitability. An effective asset management solution will help companies track returnable transport assets, ensure that they are returned, and eliminate the need for overstocking – leading to a reduction in operational costs and an improvement in their competitiveness as a result.

The next step for the industry is to add food traceability to the solution to ensure that the products are of highest quality and to ensure the consumers’ confidence in the products.
